cardinal

deal with a failed card

(coming soon) cardinal phase 1 only handles the schedule itself — billing, dunning, and churn analytics ship later. this article previews how dunning will work once the cardinal → pawpaw cron-fanout lights up.

  1. 1

    what cardinal does today

cardinal owns the schedule. pawpaw owns the actual invoice + stripe charge. cardinal doesn't yet auto-fire pawpaw invoices on cycle day, so there's no "failed card" surface inside cardinal.

  2. 2

    what's coming

a yellow "payment retry" badge on any subscription whose latest pawpaw invoice failed to charge. stripe's standard retry schedule (3 days, 5 days, 7 days) plays out automatically; the badge is your heads-up to call the customer if it's been a week.

  3. 3

    until then

open pawpaw → invoices and filter by status. failed charges surface there today. when the cardinal fanout lights up, cardinal will show the same dunning state on the subscription row so you don't have to cross-check two modules.
