tag receipts for cross-cuts the categories don't catch

categories are for tax buckets (meals, vehicle, supplies). tags are for everything else — by-job, by-trip, by-project, by-vendor. a receipt can have multiple tags.

3 steps~2 min
  1. 1

create a tag the first time you need it

open the receipt, click into the tag picker, and start typing. if no tag matches, you'll see "create '<name>'" — tap it to mint the tag and apply it in one step.

  2. 2

apply tags at scan time or after

the scan flow has a tag picker right next to the category. you can also tag from the receipt detail any time after.

  3. 3

filter by tag from the list

the toolbar has a tag filter alongside category. "trip to atlanta" + date range pulls every receipt from that trip in two clicks — useful for client expense reimbursements.

    tip

tags are most powerful for one-off projects. for ongoing classification (anything you'll reuse forever), use the category. tags can pile up — categories shouldn't.
