lifetime sold vs outstanding — what each stat means

the dashboard shows three stats. they each answer a different question — what got bought, what's still owed, how many cards exist.

3 steps~2 min
  1. 1

    lifetime sold

every dollar a customer has ever paid for a gift card under this program. doesn't go down when cards are redeemed — this is your top-line gift-card revenue.

  2. 2

    outstanding

the sum of unredeemed balances on active cards. drops as cards get redeemed. this is your real liability number — what you still owe in goods or service.

  3. 3

    cards issued

the count of cards. useful for marketing analysis ("holiday season pushed our card count up 3x"), less useful for accounting.

    tip

lifetime-sold minus outstanding is roughly the value you've already delivered. for tax season, your accountant cares most about outstanding — that's what shifts on your balance sheet.
